My Name is Eva Chan and I am currently studying Management for Construction, Real Estate and Infrastructure at the Bauhaus University Weimar in Germany. Last year I had the pleasure to study at the National Taiwan University in the Department for Civil Engineering.

I can absolutely say that choosing the NTU in Taipei for my exchange studies was the best decision I have ever made. I was already after the first steps onto the Taiwanese Ground, impressed by the friendly, helpful and very well organized NTU students. They did not only pick us up from the airport and helped us to get familiar with the NTU campus and structures, they even found time to show us around in Taipei during their free time. It was never so easy to make friends with local people.

The big NTU campus is such a beautiful place. The palm avenue always gave me the impression to enter a fancy resort, then entering a university ground. The very nice designed campus with his beautiful plants and lakes always made me feel comfy. Thanks to the numerous cafes and shops it was possible to snack, chat and study in a nice atmosphere. If you need silence to study, there was no better place to go than the huge library. I never saw such a silent place with so many students. Furthermore, I liked the student – teacher – collaboration a lot. Even though the schedule of the courses were sometimes very tight, because of the frequent assignments next to the exams, the teachers always knew how be friendly, fair and supportive to their students. What I also appreciate was, that most of the teachers knew how to hold an interesting, funny and sometimes even entertaining lesson. Next to the normal course the NTU has a huge variety of clubs. I believe that any kind of hobby is presented and allowed you to share your free time interest with other students.

Besides the campus, Taipei a very exciting city. The city is modern, clean and still traditional and also has big natural parts. It has the captivating combination of the crazy Asian pop culture, the fascinating parts of history and traditions. The people are open and friendly to strangers and very polite. The food and drinks is amazingly delicious, various and cheap. The nightmarket in Taiwan are always fun to explore.

Taiwan has a fascinating nature. It is totally worth to do a roundtrip around the whole island. It is not that big, but it has a lot to give. I was hiking in the Yangmingshan National Park, surfing in Waiao, saw thousands of lantern flying away in Pingxi, did a scooter trip through the Taroko gorge, enjoyed the salt water hot spring under a beautiful star night on Green Island, walked along the beautiful beach from Life of Pi in Kenting, had a nice city trip on bikes in Kaohsiung and a perfect exploring trip on Penghu. I did a lot but still could not cover every beautiful place in Taiwan. That’s why I am sure that I will visit Taiwan again one day.

Most of the time if went on those trips with other exchange students. It was extremely fun, adventurous and interesting to spend time together. We learned from each other and supported each other a lot. And I can definitely say that I made really good friends from all over the world thanks to NTU.
