The Life in NTU

Le Ngoc hai (黎玉海)

After three hour flying, we arrived to Taoyuan airport and take the taxi to Taipei city. Taipei city, in our first impression, is a peaceful city, clean and green. Different from other luxury city, Taipei did not build much high rise offices, the high rise buildings lies alternatively between old building which were designed by brick and glazing. By this way, pedestrians on street will feel comfortable, pleasant and it makes the life here more and more peaceful.

Downtown Taipei

Positioned in central of Daan district, the National Taiwan University is the oldest and most famous university in Taiwan. Although owning a huge area, the NTU do not make visitors feel overwhelmed. In other way, when the first time came here, we feel very flexible and family like living in a natural park. There are many green and public areas inside NTU. The research building and dorms are designed with camouflage colors, low level and have some similar point with old brick architecture design in Europe.

Small road were used to connect between buildings; they run natural between grass lands, playgrounds and small shops inside university. The road is always clean and the air is very airy, no dust or bio. Because of the healthy environment here, the road is not only be used as a traffic way, it also is the place where student and presidential do exercises and activities in the evening.

Inside campus of NTU

During the time in NTU, we not only work on research in labs but also have many outside activities. Shopping and traveling is our two favor activities in Taiwan. Normally, we would like to go to night market or night district. Representative night market in Taipei are Gongguan, Shilin,… where we can buy many kinds of clothes, shoes, crafts or gifts for our friends. The others who are not a fan of fashion clothes, they likely to go to Guang-hua market, Xiemen district.. for buying electronic or hightect goods. During the weekend, the Taiwanese students would like to climb mountains or picnic or dine at some harbor cities famous for fresh seafood and delicious food. There are many foreign tourists, students, and researches in Taipei. Because Taiwanese are very friendly and easy to contact, we have no trouble living and traveling in Taipei even though we cannot speak fluent  Chinese.

At NTU, we had a fantastic time for research and for traveling and experienced a new style of life. For the people who like a quiet and peaceful life, I can ensure that they would not want to lose the chance to live in Taiwan. The environment here is perfect for research, study and work.
