Greeting from Prof. Ash Puranam (new faculty member of Structure Division)

Ash Puranam

Hello all! My name is Ash Puranam and I am a new Assistant Professor in the Structures Division. I am excited to start this new journey at NTU and look forward to meeting more of you!

I am from Hyderabad, a city in the southern part of India. I went to the United States to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at Purdue University. After getting my Bachelors I worked on a number of exciting projects as a Structural Engineering Intern at Thornton Tomasetti in Chicago. I then went back to Purdue University to do my Masters and Ph.D. As a graduate student at Purdue, I also had the opportunity to visit Taiwan and Mexico for post-earthquake reconnaissance and to spend a summer in Japan doing research in the field of earthquake engineering at Tohoku University. After obtaining my Ph.D., I worked as a post-doctoral research scholar at The University of Auckland for a year and then came to NTU.

I started as an Assistant Professor at NTU in August 2019. My research interests include use of high-performance materials in structures, seismic design evaluation and retrofit of reinforced concrete structures, design of “low-damage” structures, post-earthquake reconnaissance, and data preservation and curation. In my free time, I enjoy cycling, crossfit, playing tennis, travelling, exploring food, and watching Netflix! I also enjoy interacting with students so please stop by my office (CERB 510) anytime to say hello!
